It's All About The Light

Mornings.

Need I say more?

As a self-proclaimed night owl, I disdain the A.M. greetings, the yawns, the blurry-eyed shuffling about. The only thing that makes mornings worthwhile is... well, coffee, of course! You didn't see that coming, did you?

All grumpiness aside, I've somewhat made peace with mornings over this last month. Somewhat. Forced by the early birds that be to take my children to school at the crack of dawn, I have come to actually enjoy all of the gorgeous cloud formations that fill the morning skies here in the Southeastern United States.

Hues of lavender purple, periwinkle blue, apricot orange, and buttery yellow fill the sky with the majesty of the Almighty Creator. Though there are many Divine attributes of God to worship and adore, it's His infinite creativity that never ceases to take me by surprise over and over again. Even on morning drives.

While gazing at these lovely colors one morning, it dawned on me (no pun intended; unless you thought it was funny) that what makes these gorgeous, God-sized canvas skies really affect me emotionally is the light! The light that bounces and glistens, highlights and pierces, warms and accentuates each intricate, cloudy detail.

The beauty of the light is that the clouds are not multi-colored, but where light is shown, depending on degree and angle, a myriad of colors begins to emerge, painting themselves, it seems, across the brilliant sky. Yet, the Hand of the Painter is behind it all, perfectly placing each cloud in its order, with each sunbeam in accord.

This got me thinking... the same seems to apply with us as humans. We're all human, right? But, God, in His infinite, creative, amazing sovereignty has made each of us so unique, so multi-faceted, that when His light is shown, beauty begins to emerge.

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

Jesus... He IS the Light.

If Christ is in us, we reflect His light. To different degrees. At different angles. In different "colors," if you will. It's all about THE Light!

Inspired by this rare peace I'd made with mornings for a couple of days last week, I scribbled down the following words that came flowing into my mind. Please enjoy with a cup of coffee:

The Light

When shining sun vast darkness breaks,

And pierces dead of night,
When fading moonbeams welcome day,
It’s all about the light.

When palm trees glow and glist’n in part,

From sunrise beaming bright,
When branches reach to soak in sun,
It’s all about the light.

When storm clouds form in shadows gray,

And hues of golden white,
When purples, blues and yellows dance,
It’s all about the light.

When day’s fullness draws to its end,

Fast giving up its plight,
When fiery globe, horizon meets,
It’s all about the light.

When moonlit rays bounce diamondesque,

Illum’ning highest height,
When starshine gleams on blanket black,
It’s all about the light.

When depth of soul’s desires ascend,

Blind seeking to have sight,
When Love unending condescends,
It’s all about the light.

When death pursues and end draws near,

Fears languish in the fight,
When tears, pure joy encompasses,
It’s all about the light.

When shadows dark pursue the soul,

Kind Jesus, saints invites,
When mortal dusk eternal dawns
It’s all about The Light.

"The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
